  1. HI AMARI,

WHERE CAN I GET BUTTER MILK FOR BAKING IN NAIROBI?

  2. Hi AJ, well, in Nairobi, butter milk is what I believe is referred to as "Maziwa Lala" or just "Lala" - curdled milk by definition. You can go to any major supermarket such as Nakumatt or Tuskys branch and look for "Lala", companies like Brookside or K.C.C. produce and pack them so you will find them in the milk section. If you can find any reliable, good milk bars near you, you can also ask them for "Lala" and they can sell to you. I hope this was helpful.

  6. Hi Gichiri, thanks and for reading the blog as well. For the soft and fluffy bread, it could be your recipe and/or also having an extremely hot charcoal oven as well. Trouble shoot with the heat and the recipe as well. Hope that helps.

  7. Maureen, I have just come across your website and I must say I am very impressed! Congratulations! I really get inspired when I see women who are out there making a mark! I am interested in starting my own baking business, its a passion I have though I don't have the training. Perhaps I can do some baking classes, and get some advise from you?

About a week and half ago, I bought a Cookswell jiko for Cheryl's Children's Home in Nairobi, and I have already successfully baked mini-cakes and blondies for the children, and the house mother prepared sausages and chicken on Saturday.
However, the blondies would have been A LOT easier to get out of the (rubber) pan if I had had baking parchment/paper, whether reusable or not. I got some at the Kitchen Co at Junction Mall, but unfortunately, that turned out to be round while my "tins" are square. Do you use baking parchment and if so, where do you get it? I already checked Nakumatt and Uchumi, but no luck.....

    2. Hi, sorry I took long to respond :( I'm glad you got it there at food plus, wanted to tell you - you can also go to Nairobi CBD on Biashara street in a shop called Walibhai Karim, they deal with all kinds of cake ingredients and equipment. Congrats on the Cookswell, the children are lucky to have you ^_^!
